YHS-NL Past Activities

Our first YHS-NL symposium

The day was opened by Dr.Ir. Martine Rutten who presented her work focused on the major flood event that took place during the summer of 2021 in Limburg, showing us the practicality of our work as hydrologists. Many interesting talks by PhD candidates followed. The topics varied from spotting plastics from space, to modelling global surface water quality, to peat decomposition in the Netherlands. These talks showed us again how diverse the topics covered by the YHS-NL community are. Besides the interesting talks, and after a great lunch dutch-style, we went for a tiny excursion at The Green Village of TU Delft, a field lab for sustainable innovation in the urban environment. Here all kinds of ideas to make our future more sustainable are tested, including many water-related innovations. We ended the day with a very inspiring talk by Prof. Remko Uijlenhoet who motivated all of us to be brave and bold when it comes to our research to further develop the field of hydrology. We are already looking forward to the 2nd edition of the YHS-NL symposium!
